Why Are We Here
With over 25 years of experience in Education Management, Mr Thomas Tang first started S.E.A Canadian Overseas Secondary School (Hong Kong) in 1984. It is an international school for students aged 13 to 18 years old, with a capacity of 800. Mr Tang subsequently left the school in 1990 to start an international school programme in Singapore. He established the Canadian International School (Singapore) for students aged 3 to 18 years old. The school has now grown with over 3,000 students. Its cutting edge academic programme draws on best practices from around the world to provide students with a truly global educational experience.
Through his experience at the Canadian International School, Mr Tang identified the need to offer an internationally inspired curriculum, delivered through an enhanced programme that focuses on bilingualism, to preschool children in Singapore. He set up The Learning Ladder (Singapore) in 2000, for children between the ages of 18 months to 6 years old. Managed by the Learning Society, The Learning Ladder’s core curriculum is designed to meet the needs of individual learning. Its English and Chinese programmes incorporate activities that nurture independent and creative learning. The Learning Ladder at Highgate Walk (Singapore) was set up in 2000 while The Learning Ladder at Woodlands (Singapore) was established in 2001.
In addition, Mr Tang founded Schoolhouse by the Bay (Singapore) at Katong in 2001 which is managed by The Learning Ladder. Based on the curriculum programme of The Learning Ladder, the school’s philosophy is that the child is the centre of the school community and the core of its curriculum. It advocates the belief that learning is fun and that children learn best through the process of guided self-discovery.
